1928: story of a visit to Porto
Ravel – Luiz Costa
17th may
Raúl da Costa
At composer Luiz Costa’s invitation (pianist Helena Sá e Costa’s father), Maurice Ravel performed in Porto on 24th November 1928, on the only trip he ever made to Portugal. With a repertoire filled with the French composer’s own work, the concert formed part of the Orpheon Portuense’s season of events (Luiz Costa was the head of this institution at the time), and was held in the old Gil Vicente auditorium at the Crystal Palace. This recital’s program aims to highlight the work of these two important figures in French and Portuguese music, with the performance of some of their key works. Luiz Costa’s piece “Encostas Verdes” will be performed for the very first time.
